Subject: Grievances
Just a little check sheet for you to ask yourself before you submit the grievance.
-Do I have all of the facts from the worker?
-Is there other information that I need, i.e. witnesses?
-Have I checked out all of the facts by looking around the site, checking OT and seniority lists, looking in the Stewards handbook for the policy / guideline, looked at past grievances, or asked other Stewards or Executive members for advice?
-Have I checked the Collective Agreement and or Provincial Legislation on the topic?
-Have I clearly filled out the fact sheet with a detailed account of what happened so that people will be able to understand the nature of the grievance well into the future?
Just remember if you ever need any help, there are always people around to help. You have both a Deputy and a Chief steward as resources, do not hesitate to call on their help if you even feel a little uneasy about what you are doing, as you are representing a fellow member, and you want to make sure you do the best you can do for that member!
